It is with tremendous sadness I have to report the passing of our dear club member John Miller. John had been ill for some time and he succumbed last Friday, September 13th.

Our club is one of the best clubs in New England.  It is such in large part due to John’s work with the club in its early days.  John was the President for some years finally giving up the baton in 2010.  John was involved with the club from its embryonic days and stood fast to make it the club it is today. We club members all owe John a debt of gratitude.

John served as a police officer in the town of Barnstable ensuring the safety and security of its residents and visitors. They owe him a debt of gratitude.

And finally, John was a veteran who served the United States of America well. This nation owes John a debt of gratitude.

This remarkable man who lived to serve others will be sadly missed.

There will be a funeral service at St Francis Xavier Church on South Street, Hyannis on Thursday, September 19 at 10:00 am followed by his interment at the National Cemetery.

About Us

Discover Flying R/C Club was founded in 1982 by a handful of model airplane enthusiasts. We are now chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).

In 2006 the AMA recognized our club as one of the best R/C associations in the country by awarding the Silver Leader Club Award. This is the second highest honor bestowed by the AMA in recognition of demonstrated leadership and commitment to the sport of model aviation and community service.

Discover Flying welcomes all levels of flyers and encourages beginners to come to our field and get acquainted with our hobby. We have experienced members and instructors who are willing to assist newcomers in setting up and flying their aircraft.

We maintain one of the finest flying fields in the AMA Northeast District that includes large mowed runways, picnic tables, startup benches in the pits, and sanitation facilities.

Our club Frost Fly & Chili-Fest held on Jan. 1 is considered a major district event.
